In a surprising turn of events on Friday night, the University of Virginia triumphed over No. 8 Florida, clinching a 46-38 victory after double overtime.
The match, held at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, unleashed a frenzy among Cavaliers fans, who quickly stormed the field following the thrilling upset.
This intense game was a true rollercoaster, ultimately concluding with an interception from Florida quarterback Tommy Castellanos right into the hands of Virginia’s Jason Provision.
Moments after the final whistle, supporters rushed the field, jubilantly celebrating with players and coaches in a chaotic scene. Amid the excitement, fans caught a glimpse of Castellanos’s reaction.
At least one enthusiastic UVA fan managed to scale one of the goalposts in the midst of the celebration.
According to the ACC’s Field Storming Rules, Virginia is set to incur a $50,000 fee as a first-time offender regarding the incident.
Virginia’s quarterback, Chandler Morris, had a standout performance throughout the day. With five touchdowns to his name, his pivotal third rushing score and a game-winning 4-yard touchdown run in the second overtime, followed by a successful two-point conversion to Trell Harris, marked a significant turning point in the game.
J’Mari Taylor also played a crucial role, contributing 99 rushing yards and a touchdown, while the defense stepped up to create a critical position during the second overtime to secure the win.
Xavier Brown added another 60 rushing yards, bolstering the team’s offensive efforts.
The Cavaliers now stand at 4-1 in the Young College football season, having secured a win that improves on their overall performance since finishing 5-7 in 2024.
It’s worth noting that Virginia hasn’t experienced a winning season since 2019, nor have they appeared in a bowl game since 2021.
On the other hand, Florida, now at 3-1, will likely see a drop in their top 10 ranking following this unexpected defeat.
