Trump Authorizes Troops to Protect Portland Amid Antifa Concerns

President Donald Trump has authorized the deployment of troops to safeguard facilities in Portland, Oregon, including those of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), citing attacks by Antifa.

On Saturday morning, Trump announced the decision on social media, stating it came at the request of Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem.

“At the request of Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem, I direct Secretary of War Pete Hegses to provide all the military necessary to protect the war-torn Portland,” he said.

He underscored the government’s readiness to use full force if needed.

Earlier this month, Trump labeled Antifa a terrorist organization in an executive order, following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Tyler Robinson’s description of the Kirk assassination scene included the phrase “O Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao, Ciao,” which is tied to the Italian song favored by Antifa, according to Spencer Cox (R-UT). Another note found at the scene read, “Hey fascist! Catch!”

During a recent event, Vice President JD Vance highlighted that violent anti-ICE protests over the summer had resulted in assaults on ICE buildings.

“I think there was a federal building in Oregon where individuals in black ski masks engaged in violent acts,” Vance noted. “These are organized groups committing political terrorism on American soil. The government should be protecting the American people, not those perpetrating violence against them.”

Trump indicated that federal intervention in Portland would happen soon to restore order, describing the situation as involving “crazy people trying to burn buildings, including federal ones.” He characterized the perpetrators as professional agitators and anarchists.
