The only sure thing about Jaxson Dart's first start with the Giants

It’s tough to predict how we’ll reflect on this day in five or even ten years. Will it be remembered as the start of something significant? Maybe as the dawn of a new chapter for Giants Football? Or will it just be another misstep in a series of them?

Right now, there’s no real reason to label what’s happening at MetLife Stadium as the kickoff of the Jackson Dart era. The Giants are cautiously optimistic that it signifies a fresh start, not a continuation of past mistakes. The only definite thing is that DART will make his debut against an undefeated opponent. Timing? Well, that’s a surprise for everyone.

“It was just a matter of time,” remarked guard John Ragnyaan Jr. to the Post. “I didn’t expect this to happen so quickly. This is the situation we have now.”

The situation isn’t exactly ideal. What are the Titans up to lately? The initial plan was to support veteran Russell Wilson for a longer stretch this season, but that fell apart after he struggled in several games. Now, the 22-year-old DART, who was the 25th pick in the first round of the 2025 draft, is stepping in sooner than anticipated.

Head coach Brian Daboll had praised Dart intensely during the spring and summer after securing him in the draft. Dart only played six snaps in the first three games and didn’t attempt a pass. Now, the hype needs to translate into actual performance in this results-driven field.

“I don’t really feel any pressure,” Dart stated. “I’m focused on winning one game at a time. It was tough to watch us come so close each week.”

That’s not his concern anymore. He now has the job of getting the ball into the hands of standout wide receiver Malik Nabers more often than Wilson managed to. Nabers had 32 targets in three games but only managed 16 receptions, which just isn’t enough.

DART should get some support from Andrew Tomouth at left tackle, who missed the first two games but played 28 snaps in week three after recovering from offseason foot surgery.

While it wouldn’t be accurate to say there’s an overwhelming vibe of enthusiasm around his arrival, he’s clearly well-liked and exhibits calm and leadership traits that are impressive for someone so young.

Veteran receiver Darius Slayton had this to say: “I think he has really dynamic running ability. And his arm is something special. We’ve gotten used to how Russ did things, and, of course, there’s a learning curve with Dart.”

Fans might see this as a fresh start, but the Giants players are taking a different view.

“I’m not saying it’s like a new beginning,” receiver Onedale Robinson mentioned.

What’s the biggest worry about a rookie making his debut?

“I hope he’s not nervous,” Robinson expressed. “He’s a confident kid.”

We’ll find out soon enough.
