Trump Questions FBI Presence During Capitol Riots

Former President Donald Trump has reacted to claims that 274 FBI agents were present among the crowd during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots. He expressed a desire to know the identities and actions of these agents on that day.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump commented that this revelation contradicted statements from former FBI Director Christopher Wray. His remarks followed a report that noted the FBI’s acknowledgement of having 274 plainclothes agents in the crowd during the riots, although a specific agent did not reveal their level of involvement.

Trump stated, “It has been revealed that the FBI secretly placed 274 FBI agents in the crowd just before and during the Jan. 6 hoax against all rules, regulations, protocols and standards.” He emphasized that this isn’t what Wray has repeatedly claimed, suggesting that these agents may have acted as instigators rather than law enforcement.

“I want to know who each of these so-called agents are and what they were doing on that ‘historic’ day,” Trump continued. “Many great American patriots were made to pay a very large price just for the love of their country. I owe them this investigation of ‘dirty cops and crooked politicians!'”

He added that Wray needs to provide some explanations about the situation.

Trump remarked, “It’s two in a row, Comey and Ray, who got caught lying in our great country. We can’t let this happen to America again!”

A senior council source noted that the number of agents present is not particularly surprising, as the FBI often embeds counter-surveillance personnel in large-scale events.

Reports indicate that the FBI’s presence was understated, with more than 200 plainclothes agents allegedly in the crowd. Some agents reportedly sent anonymous complaints describing unsafe conditions and lacking proper safety equipment during the event.

In December 2024, a report surfaced where then-judicial inspector Michael Horowitz mentioned that “more than 20 confidential human sources” were identified outside the Capitol during the riots.
