Aaron Boone’s Ejections and the Yankees’ Victory
Aaron Boone’s popularity with fans seems a bit shaky following his ejection last Saturday. It’s hard to say whether this has affected his standing with the crowd.
During a game against the Orioles, Boone was ejected in front of a sold-out crowd of 46,085. The Yankees ended up winning 6-1, but it was a tense moment with home plate umpire Ramon Doyes.
“I didn’t really lose my cool,” Boone remarked after the game. “I’ve had some emotions running high lately. I felt some calls early didn’t go our way, but I shouldn’t have been tossed. It was just a quick trigger, thankfully it didn’t alter the game.” Boone, with this incident, tied with Cardinals manager Oli Marmol for the most ejections in the league this season.
The critical moment came when two inside pitches were called strikes, placing the batter at a 1-2 count with one out, while the Yankees were ahead 3-0.
The Yankees’ dugout seemed visibly frustrated. Boone’s previous experience with umpires clearly wasn’t lost on him. Meanwhile, the judge opened the scoring with a two-run single. “Honestly, I was surprised Boone got thrown out,” he said. “But in a big moment like that, you just need to focus. That’s why we have three strikes.” Boone’s support means a lot to the players, he added.
Giancarlo Stanton’s homer earlier in the game let him surpass Karl Jastrzemski, cementing his place with 453 home runs, with the next milestones being Jose Canseco and Adam Dunn at 462.
In other news, JC Eskara joined the Yankees squad on Saturday, sparking discussions about a possible postseason roster spot. Boone seemed optimistic about having a third catcher available, which could help with strategic pinch-running situations.
Regarding the upcoming playoff discussions, Boone said, “I’m not sure yet. We’ve been so focused on this game, but we’ll have those conversations on Sunday.” The team also has extra players training in Scranton as a backup plan for any injury replacements during the playoffs.
Interestingly, the Yankees achieved their 20th sellout of the season, marking a significant accomplishment in their run at the current stadium since only 23 sellouts occurred in 2018.
