Braelon Allen loses the ball and hurts his knee in disappointing game against the Jets

Jets’ Nightmarish Game Highlights Allen’s Struggles

Miami Gardens, Fla. — The Jets’ first night game of the season didn’t go well for Braelon Allen.

He fumbled on the opening drive while they were just a yard from a touchdown, after the Jets offense had run the ball a solid 76 yards. Ouch.

Then, when he touched the ball again, Allen took a hit on a kickoff return to his knee.

As a result, he left the game and didn’t return. This was a tough loss for the Jets, who fell 27-21 to the Dolphins, adding insult to injury.

The running game for the Jets has really been struggling lately. After a strong 182 yards against the Steelers in the season opener, they could only manage 99 and 100 yards against the Bills in recent weeks.

So, expectations were high for this game on Monday night, and, well, they were met—though not in the best way.

The Jets’ offense started off decently, with Breece Hall getting six yards up the middle, and then Allen added a few good carries, including a 19-yard scramble followed by another 15 yards.

But when they got to Miami’s six-yard line, Allen tried to make a move but ended up fumbling. Jack Jones knocked the ball away, and Minka Fitzpatrick jumped on it.

On the ensuing Miami drive, Tua Tagovailoa orchestrated a 96-yard march that culminated in a four-yard touchdown to former Giants tight end, Darren Waller.

Allen got hit on the next kickoff during his return to the 26-yard line. He went down for a bit but eventually got up, walking off with some assistance.

Once he left the field, the Dolphins challenged the fumble call, but the replay confirmed there had been no loss of possession by the Jets.

Allen ended his short game with just 26 yards on four carries. If his injury keeps him out for long, it would be a real loss for the team, as they’d have to adjust without his power running style. Isaiah Davis is the only other running back left fit to play.

The Jets did keep running, though, with Hall breaking off a 23-yard gain on the first play after Allen’s exit. Fields then added a remarkable 43-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Despite these efforts, their chances to secure a win dwindled, just like Allen’s initial drive ended in that costly fumble.
