Bengals’ Ja’marr Chase Frustrated After Loss to Broncos
Frustration boiled over for Ja’marr Chase following the Cincinnati Bengals’ 28-3 defeat against the Denver Broncos on Monday night.
Chase managed five receptions on eight targets, totaling just 23 yards. The offense, led by Jake Browning, struggled significantly, only achieving nine first downs and going 2 for 2 on third downs, without attempting to convert any fourth downs.
The wide receiver’s tough night coincided with a heated talk with head coach Zach Taylor. “There’s urgency, man, that’s what you have to want,” Chase told reporters. “At the end of the day, we have to want it. Today, it didn’t look like we wanted it.”
Chase expressed concern that the team seemed to be “just giving up.” He attempted to downplay the gravity of his conversation with Taylor.
The Bengals have had a rough two weeks since Joe Burrow was sidelined with an injury. Last week, Chase caught five passes for 50 yards in a humiliating 48-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
“If I’m losing, I’m always frustrated,” Chase admitted. “But it’s part of the game, guys. Sometimes emotions take over. Sometimes it seems that it’s not supposed to happen. That happens.”
Browning refrained from criticizing his teammates, but he lamented the lack of explosive plays over the past weeks. “The last two weeks have felt like we didn’t really have the momentum and it’s not really explosive,” Browning said. “You’re fighting a fierce battle with one arm and behind your back when you’re in a long situation, leading to a second and long, a long, a third and long.”
The Bengals are set to face the Detroit Lions in week five.
