A homeless man allegedly raped a 36-year-old woman in her Bronx apartment. The victim, in a desperate plea for help, reportedly asked bystanders how much it would cost to make the assault stop, sources and prosecutors have revealed.
Kenneth Cyribo, 21, approached her around 5 AM on a Sunday in a residential building located on East Gun Hill Road near Putnam Place in Norwood. According to court documents, he covered her mouth with one hand while squeezing her throat with the other.
He then threw her to the ground and began to repeatedly punch her, inflicting bruises, swelling, and cuts. The investigation outlines that Cyribo looked down at her afterward and shouted something, though details are sparse.
In a disturbing twist, he grabbed the victim’s wallet from her coach bag, which reportedly contained $250 in cash, her ID, and a key.
Later, NYPD released footage showing a suspicious individual adjusting his pants as he exited the apartment building with a towel around his neck.
It remains unclear how Cyribo gained access to the building, but sources indicated that he might have been there for some time.
Cyribo was arrested later that Monday afternoon in a different Bronx building, situated about two miles from where the assault took place, according to the police.
Charged with multiple offenses—rape, robbery, and grand theft, among others—he is currently being held on $30,000 bail.
Cyribo, whose last known address is in Union Beach, New Jersey, had not faced any previous arrests in New York City, authorities noted.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another case involving Zion Exum, a repeat offender, who was arrested in connection with a rape case related to an earlier assault on September 13.
In a separate case, 30-year-old Xavier Chapman was taken into custody for raping a 19-year-old woman on a park bench in Belmont on September 17.
So far this year, the Bronx has witnessed 399 reported rapes, showing a 27% increase from the 314 assaults recorded in the same timeframe of 2024.
Citywide, the total number of rapes reached 1,504, marking a 19% rise compared to the 1,265 reported in the same period last year. The NYPD attributes this increase, at least in part, to recent legislative changes that have expanded the definition of rape and included more forms of sexual assault.
