It appears that many people support Napheesa Collier.

Nafisa Collier caught everyone off guard when she participated in an interview with the Minnesota Lynx Exit on Tuesday afternoon.

Typically seen as the team’s calm figure, Collier directed pointed critiques at Commissioner Kathy Engelbert, emphasizing a lack of accountability from the league’s administration.

Although Collier insisted she was speaking only for herself, it soon became evident that many players throughout the league resonated with her remarks.

In her brief four-minute address, she highlighted several issues, including inconsistent leadership, insufficient salaries for players, and a general lack of respect from the league.

  • On league leadership: “We have the best players in the world and the best fans, yet we currently have the worst leadership.”
  • Regarding rookie salaries: “I asked Engelbert how players like Caitlin, Angel, and Paige would address the fact that those driving the league’s revenue make so little in their early years. Her answer? Caitlin should be grateful she made $16 million off the court due to the platform the WNBA provided.”
  • On media rights: “She mentioned that players should be thankful for the media rights deal I’ve secured.”
  • Engelbert’s response to injuries: “From what I’ve heard, Cathy hasn’t made any effort to reach out. Instead, she told my agent she doubts that physical play is linked to my injuries.”
  • About fines against players and coaches: “The answer to our leadership’s lack of accountability seems to be holding everyone accountable through fines. Frankly, I’m not worried about fines; I’m concerned about the future of our sport.”

In response, Kathy Engelbert issued a rather subdued statement expressing her disappointment with how Collier portrayed their dialogue and the league’s leadership.
