Carnival Ride Malfunction at California High School Event
A carnival ride in California experienced a malfunction during a high school event, resulting in one of the carriages falling to the ground.
The ride, known as “The Zipper,” was a part of the festivities at Our Lady Conaty of Loretto High School in Los Angeles. According to a video of the incident, the ride came to an abrupt halt before two of its carriages collided, leading to one dropping suddenly.
Witness Alexia Murillo noted that it appeared a cable had come loose. “It snapped, hit the ground, and everyone started screaming,” Murillo recounted.
Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported following the incident, as officials confirmed. Another bystander, Sylvester Ramirez, mentioned his surprise when they attempted to restart the ride after the malfunction. “You never imagine something like that happening to you. It’s different when you see it online versus seeing it in person,” he shared. Ramirez expressed his confusion over the ride being operated again so quickly.
Authorities, including the California Occupational Safety and Health (CAL/OSHA) Entertainment Division, are looking into the event. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles expressed gratitude that nobody was seriously hurt during the malfunction.
