Jay Cutler walked out of prison without much hassle.
The former NFL quarterback was released late Wednesday, after spending about two and a half days in Williamson County, Tennessee, when he was initially sentenced to four days starting the previous Monday.
At 42, Cutler accepted a jail term as part of his plea deal after admitting guilt to a misdemeanor DUI charge. This has been previously reported.
In exchange for serving his time, Cutler avoided weapons charges that had been brought against him.
Along with his prison stay, he faced a $350 fine, a year of unsupervised probation, a DUI safety course, and a one-year suspension of his driver’s license.
These legal troubles began with a DUI arrest on October 17th last year in Franklin, Tennessee.
Reports indicate that Cutler had offered the other driver $2,000 to keep police out of the situation. He was found struggling to communicate, with bloodshot eyes, and he refused a sobriety test at the scene; two firearms were also found in his vehicle.
Blood samples were taken later at a local hospital.
Initially, Cutler faced several charges, including DUI, but many were dropped as part of a plea agreement.
One of the drivers he hit has since filed a lawsuit against him, claiming he was unable to operate the vehicle safely which led to injuries for himself and others.
This individual is seeking $250,000 in damages.
Cutler had a notable 12-season NFL career following his first-round draft selection by the Broncos in 2006. He garnered Pro Bowl recognition in 2008, ultimately throwing 227 touchdowns against 160 interceptions.
From 2013 to 2020, Cutler was married to Christine Cavalari, and they share three children: sons Camden and Jackson, and daughter Saylor.
