Eric Trump Talks about His Father’s Humor After Assassination Attempt
In a recent interview, Eric Trump shared insights about how his father, former President Donald Trump, leveraged humor to cope with the aftermath of an assassination attempt during his 2024 campaign in Butler, Pennsylvania. Eric recounted being the first person his father reached out to post-incident. “They stopped his ears. They took off his head,” Eric said, adding that his father urged him to emphasize lightness in the face of such darkness.
Eric compared his father’s approach to that of famed boxers like Tyson and Holyfield, noting, “He always found a way to infuse some levity into challenging situations. It’s a powerful tool, if used wisely.”
The assassination attempt occurred on July 13, 2024. Tragically, one person lost their life, while two others were injured at the rally where the shooting took place.
Eric Trump Reflects on Resilience
Eric mentioned that his father returned to Butler following the incident, showcasing his determination and resilience. He recalled his father’s remarks when he visited the rally site again on October 5, 2024, three months later: “It can make people uncomfortable, but he leaned into it and said, ‘Yes, that’s right.’”
During his speech at that rally, Trump opened with a lighthearted joke regarding his Pennsylvania supporters and his own life experiences, emphasizing a casual, relatable tone.
Eric expressed that traditional politicians often come off as insincere and overly scripted. In contrast, he stated that his father broke that mold with authenticity and courage. “He spoke from the heart, without retreating or softening his message. It resonates with Americans, especially those who appreciate a tough stance,” Eric noted.
