Trump Addresses Crime and Government Shutdown in Recent Interview
In a recent exclusive conversation with One American News, a key voice from President Donald Trump’s administration emphasized that crime is one of the biggest issues currently looming over the United States. Along with discussing plans to send troops to Memphis, Tennessee, he shared insights on reducing crime rates in Washington, D.C., which have hit record lows. Despite opposition from city Democrats, National Guard units will also be deployed in Chicago, Illinois, aiming to bring about much-needed help.
During this exclusive interview conducted in the Roosevelt Room at the White House, the Commander-in-Chief covered a multitude of topics that resonate with many Americans. He talked about the recent US government shutdown, the upcoming mid-term elections in 2026, the state of the economy, and the increasing concerns regarding crime in major cities.
The ongoing government shutdown, the first since 2018, has sparked a considerable amount of debate. Trump pointed out that, while he had initially supported a clean continuing resolution back in March, Democrats are now resisting, primarily pushing for free healthcare for undocumented immigrants at the taxpayers’ expense.
“The Democrats demand healthcare from everyone,” said Maxine Waters (D-CA) in response to questions about the voting dynamics surrounding the resolution. “We want to save lives. We want to make healthcare available to those who need it.”
In another recent interview, Trump expressed concerns that allowing such resolutions could potentially lead to an influx of foreigners seeking free medical care, which he believes would weaken the country.
He also took the opportunity to criticize Democratic leaders for supporting open borders, facilitating transgender surgeries for minors, and permitting biological men to compete in women’s sports.
While discussing meetings between Democratic leaders Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer, Trump surprisingly referred to both as “Total Gentlemen,” but made it clear that the atmosphere shifted drastically once they left the Oval Office.
The duration of the shutdown remains unknown, and with Democrats failing to endorse the Republican continuing resolution, significant layoffs could ensue. Moreover, funding shortages could jeopardize numerous projects previously championed by Democrats.
“There’s a fire, and that’s their fault. We can cut back on the projects they wanted, and they’ll be cut forever,” Trump asserted.
Despite the challenges, the president has expressed a desire for the shutdown to be brief, clarifying that he doesn’t intend to create confusion surrounding it.
“A lot of people say I want this, and I didn’t want it,” he stated.
When asked about his achievements during his presidency, Trump highlighted a significant bill he referred to as a “big, beautiful bill,” aimed at continuing tax cuts and regulatory relief for citizens, which he believes contribute to economic prosperity.
Trump emphasized that his administration secured considerable investment commitments shortly after he took office, stating that these efforts could have lasting positive effects on the economy. He attributed the influx of investments largely to the tariffs implemented during his tenure, noting that the trade deficit has been effectively halved.
“We are becoming a very rich, very powerful country, which gives us strength,” he remarked.
When discussing the potential revenue from tariffs, expected to amass trillions annually, Trump suggested it could be used to address national debt, implying a focus on benefiting citizens before pursuing international initiatives.
Amidst these discussions, Trump highlighted his visits to struggling communities, contrasting his priorities with those observed during the Biden administration, which faced criticism for perceived negligence towards everyday Americans.
“I care more about people,” he stated, criticizing how the Biden administration handled various socio-economic issues.
In referring to ongoing immigration concerns, Trump mentioned a significant number of individuals from troubled backgrounds entering the country during Biden’s leadership, emphasizing that this has altered the fabric of American society.
Since resuming office, Trump has made it a priority to remove individuals with criminal records who have entered the country illegally, particularly those that pose a danger to public safety.
Following the deployment of National Guard troops to high-crime areas in Washington, D.C., Trump noted a sizable decrease in violent crime just weeks later. Now, he intends to shift troops to cities like Memphis, Portland, and again, Chicago, despite facing pushback from local leaders.
“We’re going to save Chicago,” he promised, indicating a plan already in motion.
Regarding recent immigration enforcement operations, federal agents conducted significant raids in Chicago, leading to multiple arrests.
“We’re going to lose Chicago, and we don’t want it to happen,” Trump warned.
While specific dates for troop deployments weren’t confirmed, he assured that actions would occur soon, emphasizing that the push came from the community rather than political leaders.
“People want safety… I don’t care whether I’m a Democrat or something else – I’ll beg Trump to bring in the troops if that’s what it takes,” he said.
Furthermore, Trump criticized the reputation of Democratic leaders who refuse federal assistance, stating that when he intervenes in traditionally blue cities, the responses typically lead to legal battles, which he often wins.
He wrapped up the discussion by highlighting the perilous political climate fueled by divisive rhetoric from Democratic leaders, asserting that the narrative labeling conservatives negatively has only heightened tensions in the political landscape.
