Senator Adam Smith Discusses Asylum Process on News Nation
During a segment of News Nation’s “Cuomo” on Thursday, Senator Adam Smith (D-WA) remarked that individuals who are beneficiaries of the Affordable Care Act might be part of the asylum process he referenced.
Host Chris Cuomo responded by highlighting the ongoing debate surrounding legal versus illegal immigration, noting that even some Republicans supported an increase in state refunds to a rate of 90%. He argued that this change could influence asylum seekers once they are in the country, although the majority wouldn’t face exile.
Smith acknowledged Cuomo’s points, but emphasized an important perspective. He stated that if he supports the Republican budget, it would signify acceptance of an abuse of power that he believes is detrimental to the nation. He further mentioned that Republicans have dismissed Democratic efforts aimed at keeping the government operational.
In a prior interview with “CNN News Central,” Smith commented on the actions of the Trump administration, which he claimed has been actively revoking statuses from numerous individuals and deporting many others, leading to a significantly reduced number of those seeking asylum.
