Sen. Mark Kelly Discusses Healthcare Proposals
During an episode of CNN’s “Source” on Friday, Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) addressed a question regarding the Democratic healthcare proposal. He emphasized that while healthcare “cares” focuses on ACA subsidies, not all the elements are necessarily interconnected, asserting simply that “I care.”
Host Catelan Collins pointed out that Democrats are pushing for this change due to the high premiums that many people struggle to afford, risking their health insurance in the process. She referenced a section of the extensive 68-page proposal from Senate Democrats.
Kelly expressed his concern, saying, “This is what I care about—the rising costs. In Arizona alone, 109,000 individuals may find it impossible to pay, meaning they could lose their health insurance. This is the critical issue we’re discussing. I think these premium hikes are significant here, and it seems like the Republican leadership is aiming to provide substantial tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.”
Collins pressed further, leading Kelly to respond: “Look, Catelan, I’m not here to hash this out on your show, but I’ve got a personal affinity for the space shuttle. That’s important to me, sure, but it doesn’t need to be in this proposal. What really matters right now is the adverse impact on Americans. This situation is particularly hard on rural communities, many of which supported Donald Trump.”
