Recent Incident Involving ICE in Portland
A video surfaced recently showing a suspect being apprehended on a flatbed cart. The clip was shared by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on October 5, highlighting an incident in Portland.
In the footage, the suspect, clad in a black hoodie, can be seen lying on a metal cart, with his hands restrained behind him. This video quickly gained traction online, racking up tens of thousands of views on X within hours, and estimates suggest it has reached over 3 million views as of Sunday evening.
The agency’s post included a provocative caption: “Would you refuse to take a walk? We refuse to ride you.”
Protests Erupt in Chicago
Meanwhile, the video has sparked protests against ICE across the nation, coinciding with ongoing law enforcement initiatives under President Trump’s administration. Recently, over a dozen individuals were arrested during a protest at an ICE facility in the Chicago suburbs.
In a similar vein, tensions escalated in Broadview, Illinois, where around 250 protesters clashed with law enforcement. Reports noted that officers used pepper balls, tear gas, and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.
Additionally, ICE officials faced hostility from some individuals who allegedly used their vehicles as weapons in the suburbs of Norwich and Bensenville. “Thankfully, no members of our law enforcement were harmed during these chaotic encounters,” stated DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
Statements and Responses
This incident has drawn criticism towards local politicians, with some suggesting that the actions of Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson, among others, have encouraged resistance against law enforcement.
At present, ICE has yet to release the suspect’s name, and further details remain unclear.
