Breece Hall Reflects on Loss to Cowboys
After a tough loss to the Cowboys, Breece Hall discussed the game’s impact on him. It seemed that the uncompetitive nature of the match weighed heavily on him, especially with the Jets struggling at 0-5 and out of playoff contention.
“This is my fourth year,” Hall mentioned, which does add weight to his experiences on the field. He had an impressive game, racking up an average of 155 yards from scrimmage and 8.1 yards per carry. However, a fumble that occurred during a crucial moment in the first half—when a touchdown was on the line—proved disastrous, contributing to the Jets’ 37-22 defeat at MetLife Stadium.
“It’s just something that cost us, and it’s not acceptable,” Hall commented. “You can’t shoot yourself in the foot. As one of the key players, I shouldn’t put us in that position.”
During the game, Hall did experience a Stinger after a hit from Marist Leufau, which caused him pain but he managed to return for the second half. “I’ve never had one of those,” he explained. “It was a solid play by the defender. Sometimes you just don’t see them coming.” Despite the setback, Hall was responsible for a significant portion of the Jets’ yardage, with six of the nine longest plays over 16 yards.
Interestingly, he had six carries that exceeded ten yards. Yet, his focus was still on that fumble at a critical moment. “I really put this on myself,” he admitted. “I told the coach that it could have swung the game by 14 points. Blame doesn’t help us; we need to move forward.”
Looking ahead, Hall is poised to take on a larger role, especially with a teammate injured for the season. It’s also a crucial year for him, as he hopes to secure a new contract, whether with the Jets or elsewhere.
In retrospect, it felt like the Jets should have been utilizing him more—14 carries would’ve been reasonable. Instead, they opted for a pass that resulted in a touchdown for Andrew Beck. “I’m not complaining about Tanner or anything,” Hall added, though one might wonder if he was truly satisfied with that decision.
This ongoing dialogue around their running strategy highlights the Cowboys’ earlier concerns about their run defense. They had even made a trade for Kenny Clark to bolster that area, which speaks to their commitment ahead of the season.
“I’m committed to what Tanner calls,” Hall concluded. “He puts me in great positions and I trust him. But it stings to mishandle the ball when it costs the team points. I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
