Mayor Adams Takes Trip to Albania Departing from Reelection Bid

Even as he steps back from the reelection race, Mayor Eric Adams has embarked on a four-day trip to Albania, funded by New York City taxpayers, according to city officials.

This venture, as reported by NBC4, is framed as a necessary part of his mayoral duties, rather than a personal getaway. City Hall spokesperson Kayla Mamelak emphasized that the trip was initiated by Albanian Prime Minister Eddie Rama.

During his time in Albania, Adams is set to meet with various leaders, including the Prime Minister and representatives from the business and tech sectors. The goal is to explore ways to boost economic activity and tourism for New York City.

This journey might be Adams’ last official trip of his first term, which has been marked by various controversies, including a federal complaint regarding his travel practices tied to discounted airline arrangements worth $123,000. Adams has denied any involvement in misconduct linked to Turkish airlines.

When asked about his travel arrangements, officials confirmed that he did not use Turkish airlines, instead opting for Lufthansa for his departure from New York City.

Some costs associated with the trip will be covered by New York City taxpayers, but both accommodations and local transport for Adams and his security team will be funded by the Albanian government, estimated at around $200 and $90, respectively.

Interestingly, there are some personal ties between Adams and Albania. His son, Jordan Coleman, gained recognition on a show akin to “American Idol” in 2022, and he has also recently released five themed party trucks inspired by his travels through Eastern Europe.

While chatting with an Albanian television host during a prior event at the UN General Assembly, Adams expressed admiration for his son’s success, reflecting on his own achievements with a hint of jealousy.

Though Coleman did not accompany his father on this trip, city officials made it clear that the journey is strictly professional. Adams is expected to return to New York City on Thursday.
