A fresh start is on the horizon for the New York Rangers as they kick off the 2025-26 season tonight.
After a lackluster 2024-25 season, the team is ready to turn the page, opening at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins, who are now coached by Mike Sullivan.
Sullivan, who spent time with the Rangers as an assistant coach from 2009 to 2013, has made quite an impact in the NHL. During his decade leading the Penguins, he brought home two Stanley Cups. Having taken on the head coach role with the Rangers this past May, he was also chosen by USA Hockey to guide the men’s team for the upcoming 2026 Olympics.
As part of the new chapter, the Rangers have appointed JT Miller as their captain—the 29th in the franchise’s history. Miller, originally drafted by the Rangers in 2011, had a six-year stint with the team before being traded. He made his return in January 2025.
