Sean Avery in Dispute with Neighbor Following Shooting Incident
Former Rangers player Sean Avery is currently facing a troubling situation involving a “crazy neighbor” who allegedly fired shots in front of his Los Angeles residence. This incident reportedly took a bizarre twist as the neighbor attempted to “frame” the former NHL player with “two prostitutes.”
Avery, now 46, stated that the neighbor shot at the tires of a contractor’s vehicle that was working on his new deck in the Hollywood Hills on Tuesday. “My crazy neighbor shot out the tire of a contractor who was building a new deck on his house,” Avery expressed in an Instagram post. “As it is, there’s a standoff at the house. He’s inside. He has a gun.”
He further alleged, “He calls two prostitutes and tries to trap me. He sends two prostitutes into the house as a smokescreen. I’m not there.” Avery, sounding a bit bewildered, exclaimed, “Prostitutes…I don’t even know what’s going on in the election. Spencer Pratt, hockey games, prostitutes…Wow!” This was in reference to the ongoing Los Angeles mayoral race and the Stanley Cup Final.
According to a 911 call received by the Los Angeles police around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, there were claims of harassment and threats made by Avery’s neighbors against contractors involved in a home renovation project. However, when officers arrived in the evening, around 5 p.m., they found no signs of immediate threats.
Both Avery and his wife, model Hilary Rhoda, were not present during the incident, which Avery clarified happened while he was not on set filming. It’s still uncertain if their 5-year-old son, Nash, was home at that time.
Reports indicate that Avery’s neighbor was taken into custody around 6:15 p.m., as noted by the Los Angeles Police Department. An investigation is currently in progress.
While details leading up to the shooting remain hazy, Avery is no stranger to dramatic encounters with neighbors. In 2022, a video surfaced showing him clashing with teenagers over street parking outside a house he was looking after in Hollywood Hills. He accused these teens of blocking his driveway and made an impassioned remark about removing their windshield wipers if they blocked it again. When one bystander suggested he shouldn’t speak to kids that way, Avery challenged him, retorting that he was “too short to actually challenge anyone.”
The confrontation escalated, with Avery stating, “If this were my kid, I’d pull him by the hair and put him in the house and tell his stupid friends to go home.” But, notably, no police report was filed regarding that incident either.
Avery’s hockey career spanned 12 seasons, during which he scored 90 goals and made 157 assists in 580 games, representing teams like the Red Wings, Kings, Stars, and Rangers. He was notably a leader in penalty minutes twice before retiring in 2012.
