Trump expresses gratitude to hostage families for their letter nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

In a letter to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, former President Donald Trump marked the second anniversary of the tragic events from October 7, 2023. He expressed his thanks to the Norwegian Nobel Commission for their support in his appeal for peace.

Trump’s message reflected on the terrible occurrences from that day, noting how families were shattered, children were forcibly taken from their parents, and numerous innocent lives were lost. He emphasized a personal commitment to bring all hostages back home and to ensure Hamas is dismantled to prevent future tragedies. “These haunting images will stay with us forever,” he stated.

He also acknowledged the emotional toll on families who have spent two years enduring uncertainty regarding their loved ones’ fates, expressing empathy for their struggles. “The stories you’ve shared have touched my entire administration,” he mentioned.

Recently, during the Forum’s correspondence with the Nobel Committee, they acknowledged a shift in Trump’s efforts, noting the number of hostages released since he took office. They expressed hope that his actions had offered some families dignity in closure through burials.

The Forum credited Trump with bringing “light” during these challenging times, asserting that no leader has contributed to global peace as much as he has. They expressed confidence in his dedication to secure the release of the remaining hostages and bring an end to the conflict in the Middle East.

However, amidst this context, the prospect of Trump winning the Nobel Peace Prize remains uncertain. He’s not lost hope, though. Over the weekend, he urged negotiators to “act quickly” and showed a degree of optimism about Hamas’ response, suggesting Israel should halt bombings in Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously accepted a 20-point peace plan in the U.S. last month, although Hamas has yet to finalize their decision regarding hostages, creating a bit of ambiguity around the ongoing negotiations.

As discussions unfold, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has labeled the Trump agreement as a “historic opportunity” to conclude this period of unrest and lay groundwork for sustainable peace.

Amid these developments, key negotiators from Israel and Hamas were set to meet in Egypt for continued discussions over the peace plan, with reports indicating that both parties largely agreed on initial conditions, including hostage releases and a temporary ceasefire.
