Katie Porter, a candidate for governor in California, showed visible frustration during an interview when a reporter asked her a straightforward question regarding President Trump. This prompted an angry response, suggesting she didn’t want the scene recorded. There are claims that she even threw mashed potatoes at her then-husband’s head, indicating heightened emotions during the discussion.
Footage from the interview, which emerged recently, captured the moment Porter reacted dismissively when pressed about how she would appeal to the 40% of California voters who supported Trump, a demographic she needs to attract for electoral success.
When asked by CBS reporter Julie Watts about her strategy, Porter initially appeared irritated and claimed her ability to gain broader support. However, she quickly became defensive, expressing disbelief over the question’s necessity.
The reporter countered, stating that other candidates had addressed similar inquiries without issue. As the questioning continued, Porter attempted to pull away the microphone, saying, “I don’t want to continue doing this. I’ll stop now.” She expressed a desire for more positive discussions rather than an endless cycle of follow-up questions.
She later mentioned, “I don’t want to show all of this on camera,” highlighting her discomfort with how the interview was unfolding.
After clips circulated online, Porter’s team noted that the interview actually lasted another 20 minutes, though there was no immediate word on when it would be broadcast in full.
Previously, Porter faced allegations of staff bullying and claims from her ex-husband Matthew Hoffman, detailing accusations of verbal abuse and incidents during their marriage, including throwing various objects and an episode involving hot mashed potatoes.
