Sword-wielding man shares disturbing motive for Brooklyn subway murder.

A man with an extensive criminal record admitted to fatally assaulting a stranger outside a Brooklyn subway station. He reportedly told authorities he didn’t appreciate how the victim looked at him.

The individual, identified as David Mazariego, 25, is anticipated to face murder charges following the violent incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon close to the Jay Street MetroTech station.

Before facing the murder charge, Mazariego must attend an arraignment in Manhattan after being apprehended at swordpoint in Times Square just hours post the incident.

Authorities indicated that the victim, who has not yet been named, had inadvertently left the subway gate opened, allowing the attacker to strike without warning. This odd act seems to stem from a petty grudge against a policeman.

Witnesses reported a gruesome scene, noting that Mazariego struck the victim in the face multiple times—up to 15 punches—and further assaulted him by stomping on his head.

The victim, described as a man in his 50s who worked in the area, lost his wallet and ID during the attack. He was left unconscious near the intersection of Lawrence and Willoughby streets, dying about an hour later at Brooklyn Methodist NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

This violent act prompted emergency alerts across the New York City police department as they searched for the suspect. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch noted that Mazariego’s arrest was aided by a vigilant officer who recognized him from the alert.

Upon his arrest, Mazariego was found with a sword, which led to additional charges for weapons possession.
