Trump Suggests Israel-Hamas Deal Is Near
President Trump stated that an agreement aimed at resolving the Israel-Hamas conflict is “very close” and mentioned the possibility of visiting the Middle East as soon as this weekend.
During a roundtable event on Antifa, which included independent journalists like Nick Souter and Jack Posobiec, Trump provided updates on recent developments. Shortly after, Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a memo to Trump outlining the status of the negotiations.
According to a photo of the memo, shared on social media, it emphasized the urgency for approval to announce the deal on Truth Social: “Very close. We need you to approve posting on Truth Social immediately so we can announce the deal first.”
Trump opened the meeting by discussing the potential for peace in the Middle East, stating, “I just talked to people in the Middle East, Arabs and others about the possibility of peace in the Middle East. Peace in the Middle East, that’s a beautiful word. We hope it happens, but it’s very close.”
He mentioned the strength of the negotiation team, expressing optimism: “We have a great team over there, we have great negotiators, and unfortunately we have great negotiators over there as well. But I think it’s going to happen and it’s very likely to happen.”
Trump indicated that a trip to the Middle East could occur this weekend, although details remain unclear. He noted that Israel is receptive to his proposed withdrawal plan, and if Hamas agrees, a ceasefire could be implemented immediately.
Trump remarked on the unprecedented negotiations with Hamas and other Islamic nations: “We do business with Hamas and many countries, including all Islamic countries. All Arab countries are included… That has never happened before. Nothing like this has ever happened before, and as you know, our final negotiations are with Hamas and they seem to be going well, so I would like to let you know. In that case, departures would probably be a little later than Sunday, Saturday, or Saturday evening, but that seems to be our schedule.”
Last week, Trump brought Hamas to the negotiating table with a peace proposal that had a deadline set for over the weekend. On Friday, the Israeli prime minister expressed gratitude towards several Arab nations like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Jordan, and Egypt for their backing, emphasizing during talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday that “all countries” supported the ongoing negotiations.
