Documentary on Melania showcases the first lady's life away from the public eye

A new documentary titled “Melania” offers a glimpse into the life of one of the more enigmatic first ladies, set to debut in the U.S. on January 30th.

Amazon MGM Studios has reportedly invested $40 million in the project, which promises what they describe as “backstage passes” into Melania Trump’s world as she balances family, business, and significant responsibilities in the days leading up to her husband’s presidential inauguration in 2025.

Directed by seasoned Hollywood filmmaker Brett Ratner, the documentary provides a look at high fashion, international diplomacy, and philanthropy as Melania, a former top model, readies herself for her first inauguration after eight years and manages her family’s relocation to the White House.

“Purpose and precision”

Fashion plays a prominent role, with sources indicating that Melania will showcase wardrobes aligned with some of the world’s leading fashion houses.

“Few have had the chance to see things from the perspective of the next first lady, particularly during the 20 days leading to Inauguration Day,” Melania shares.

“This preparation period is remarkable. As First Lady, I pay close attention to every detail while juggling our move, my business, and philanthropic efforts. These 20 days blend leadership, purpose, and precision.”

Viewers can look forward to exclusive insights into several of President Trump’s residences, including Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Trump Tower in New York City, and the executive mansion in Washington, D.C.

Barron Trump, Melania’s eldest son, makes a brief appearance alongside the family, with cameras capturing Melania in her day-to-day business meetings and personal moments at home, according to Melania’s agent and film producer Mark Beckman.

Amazon’s biggest deals

Beckman handled the negotiations with Amazon for the licensing deal, which is reportedly the largest in the studio’s history. It encompasses a three-part documentary set to stream on Prime Video.

Beckman clarified that Trump was not involved in the deal and disputed claims surrounding the first lady’s financial stake in the film, noting that the reported $28 million figure was incorrect.

He also dismissed suggestions that Melania proposed the project to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez during a dinner at Mar-a-Lago in December.

Negotiations, which began shortly after last November’s election, sparked interest from various studios, leading to a bidding war that included Amazon, Disney, and Paramount.

Beckman stated that Melania opted for Amazon due to its impressive team and forward-thinking approach—adding that it was the only company capable of releasing the documentary in theaters across the country while also offering global streaming.

Mike Hopkins, who leads Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, praised the film and accompanying documentary as a “backstage pass” into the first family, providing an unprecedented look at Melania Trump.

Filmmakers are in the process of finalizing both the film and a supplemental three-part documentary.
