Trump hints at shutdown repercussions for Democrats: 'A minor sample of their own treatment'

Government Shutdown Continues as Trump Issues Warning

In the wake of a week-long government shutdown, President Donald Trump has signaled a tough stance from his administration. During a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, he mentioned that Democrats are about to experience “a little taste of their own medicine.” The shutdown is now in its ninth day, and it seems that neither side is willing to make concessions.

Trump noted, “Despite the damage caused by the shutdown, it’s going to get worse over time.” His administration is looking to implement “permanent cuts” as pressure mounts.

“I hate to say it, but we’re just going to cut Democratic programs,” Trump remarked. He further indicated that these cuts will specifically target popular programs supported by Democrats, essentially retaliating against what he believes is their responsibility for the shutdown.

The Democrats have repeatedly voted to maintain the shutdown since the funding deadline on October 1. In contrast, the Republican funding bill, which is intended to be straightforward, includes only a bipartisan increase in security funding following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

The Democratic proposal, on the other hand, amounts to $1.5 trillion and seeks to undo many of the legislative advancements achieved through what Trump refers to as his One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Responding to Chuck Schumer’s comments this morning about improving conditions for Democrats, Trump suggested that the reality is the opposite—things, in fact, are worsening within the Democratic Party. He implied that Schumer’s behaviors are more focused on party loyalty than serving the broader public interest, especially after their electoral losses.
