North Korea Unveils New Long-Range Missile
Kim Jong Un showcased a new long-range intercontinental ballistic missile during a military parade in Pyongyang on Friday, which welcomed various foreign leaders.
The missile, named Hwasong-20, has yet to undergo testing and is touted by the state-run Korean Central News Agency as having the “most powerful strategic nuclear weapons system.”
Alongside the new missile, the military also displayed short-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and supersonic missiles to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Labor Party’s founding.
At the event, Kim emphasized that the military should continue developing into an “invincible force” to eliminate any threats.
Among the foreign dignitaries present were Chinese Premier Li Qiang, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and the Chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Lin Lin.
Kim had a conversation with Medvedev, who lauded the sacrifices made by North Korean soldiers in support of Russia during the Ukraine conflict.
The North Korean leader expressed a desire to bolster ties with Russia and pursue shared objectives.
Last summer, Kim’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, cautioned the United States against trying to reopen discussions on denuclearization. She stated that any efforts to pressure North Korea into denuclearization would be regarded as “nothing more than a mockery.”
“If the United States can’t accept the new reality and clings to its unsuccessful past, the North Korea-US talks will remain a mere ‘hope’ for the American side,” she noted, referring to North Korea’s formal title, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
