Phil Mickelson Reacts to Charlie Kirk’s Presidential Medal of Freedom Honor

Golf icon Phil Mickelson expressed his thoughts on the announcement that the late Charlie Kirk will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom on October 14, coinciding with what would have been his 32nd birthday.

Mickelson took to X on Saturday to share his sentiments. He remarked, “His presence and message will remain forever, and I still wish he was here. This award is well-deserved.”

Since Kirk’s tragic death in Utah last month, Mickelson has actively celebrated his life and, notably, criticized those who made inflammatory statements following Kirk’s assassination.

“The assassination of Charlie Kirk brings out the best in humanity, but it also exposes the worst,” he noted in response to a previous statement from the Oxford Union president. “The outpouring of solidarity, love, and support for him from around the world is heartwarming.”

Mickelson continued to reflect on the disturbing reactions to Kirk’s death, mentioning, “The growing number of individuals supporting Tyler Robinson’s horrific actions opened my eyes to a side of extremism with a sense of moral superiority that challenged my faith in people in general. I hope they are held accountable for their abhorrent rhetoric.”

Additionally, he highlighted a debate featuring Kirk, where Kirk confronted a fellow student over comments about his “hatred” toward billionaires such as Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

In a related issue, Mickelson expressed his dismay at controversial Representative Ilhan Omar’s remarks regarding Kirk. Following an interview with CNN, Omar described Kirk as “Dr. Frankenstein” and argued that his legacy should be forgotten.

“What I find disturbing is that so many are willing to honor the most reprehensible things he said,” Omar stated, dismissing efforts to memorialize Kirk. “Hopefully, we can move on and forget the hate he spewed daily.”

In his response, Mickelson did not hold back. He posted on X, suggesting that Omar should be “repatriated to Somalia immediately.” He added, “Ilhan spews hatred every time she opens her mouth. She came here fraudulently, and I hope she is deported soon.”
