Trump's success in Israel inspires Zelenskyy with optimism for a Ukraine peace agreement

Zelenskiy Expresses Hope for Peace Similar to Israel-Hamas Deal

As President Trump’s peace agreement between Israel and Hamas continues to develop, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expresses optimism that such a resolution might eventually unfold for Ukraine as well. He envisions that with Trump’s support, it may even lead to his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize next year if peace is achieved.

Zelenskiy remarked, “This is a significant success… It signals hope for us. We trust that this pressure might replicate what President Trump did for peace in the Middle East. I also hope he can apply similar tactics to persuade President Putin to conclude the war in Ukraine.”

Challenges Facing Ukraine and Russia

Zelenskiy spoke exclusively during the “Sunday Briefing” to explore peace prospects between Russia and Ukraine following the recent Israeli-Hamas accord.

Since President Putin’s invasion in February 2022, Ukraine has endured over 1,300 days of conflict. Trump, back in office since January, has urged both nations to cease hostilities, although his patience is beginning to wane as Putin remains hesitant.

Return of Ukrainian Children

In a related note, First Lady Melania Trump announced that eight Ukrainian children taken to Russia have now been reunited with their families.

In late September, Trump hinted at potentially providing Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, asserting that the country could reclaim lost territory and urging other nations to limit their purchases of Russian oil.

Zelenskiy mentioned his phone conversation with Trump, where he congratulated the president on his achievements in brokering peace in the Middle East. He remarked, “If we can halt wars in one area, we surely can do the same in other conflicts, including the war with Russia.”

Nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize

Following Trump being overlooked for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, Zelenskiy stated that he would willingly nominate Trump for the next one if he could help establish peace in Ukraine. “I would very much be willing to nominate President Trump next year,” he said. He believes that if Trump can effectively press Putin into negotiations and contribute to ending violence, he would deserve the accolade. Zelenskiy acknowledged that while a ceasefire doesn’t completely conclude a war, it represents a critical step towards achieving lasting peace.

“If he manages that… we would indeed be proud to nominate him,” Zelenskiy concluded.
