Trump’s Possible Tomahawk Missile Plans for Ukraine

President Donald Trump has indicated that if Russian President Vladimir Putin doesn’t find a resolution to the ongoing war, he may consider sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. Trump described these weapons as “incredibly” effective and “very aggressive.”

While on Air Force One Sunday night, Trump was questioned about his conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy regarding military aid.

He mentioned a discussion with Zelensky earlier that morning, where the Ukrainian leader expressed the need for additional weaponry to combat Russia.

Trump asserted that the U.S. is currently selling and supplying arms to NATO, contrasting his actions with the Biden administration, which he accused of sending $350 billion to Ukraine.

He expressed hope that the U.S. could offer more support but highlighted the need to ensure American security first. “They need the Patriots badly. They want to get the Tomahawks. This is a step forward,” he noted, adding that discussions were underway.

Before making any decisions on sending missiles, Trump suggested that he might reach out to Putin for a conversation about the situation. “I don’t think so,” he said, cautioning that it might be a good idea to discuss missile deployments before proceeding.

Trump seemed to indicate that he could inform Russia: “If this war doesn’t get resolved, we’re going to send them the tomahawks.”

He further discussed the offensive nature of the Tomahawk missile, saying, “I might tell him that if the war is not resolved, we might do that. We might not, but we might. I think it’s appropriate to bring it up.” Trump reiterated his desire to see an end to the conflict.

Zelensky confirmed on social media that their meeting with Trump encompassed various aspects of the conflict, including enhancing Ukraine’s air defenses and long-range capabilities.

The two leaders also spoke about “many details” pertaining to the energy sector, although Zelensky didn’t provide specifics. He remarked on Trump’s awareness of current developments and their agreement to maintain open dialogue as their teams continued to prepare for future discussions.

This dialogue occurs amidst continued Russian assaults on Ukraine, including drone and missile attacks that recently injured at least 20 people in Kyiv, leading to significant power outages. The latest attacks targeted Ukraine’s power grid, likely aimed at crippling the country’s energy infrastructure before winter.

Moscow has raised “extreme concern” about the U.S. potentially supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, mirroring the strikes Russia typically launches before the winter season.
