Discussion on Hostage Return and Peace Deal
On Monday, the co-hosts of ABC’s “The View” expressed relief over the safe return of Israeli hostages. Alyssa Farrar Griffin, in particular, highlighted the significant role that her former boss, Donald Trump, as well as his administration, played in this historic event.
Griffin described the potential deal as a “major diplomatic achievement,” noting that it could offer a moment of relief for the entire world. Whoopi Goldberg also joined in, sharing a clip that celebrated the ongoing peace in the region, expressing hopes that this peace would endure.
Reflecting on the impact of the tragedy that unfolded on October 7, 2023, when Hamas terrorists committed brutal acts resulting in over 1,100 deaths and the kidnapping of 250 individuals, including children, Griffin remarked that every Jew felt the weight of those events.
As for Trump’s efforts, she acknowledged that, irrespective of personal views about him, his approach may have been pivotal. Notably, she credited special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner with helping broker the deal, emphasizing that sometimes, confronting “the most evil people” is necessary for achieving peace. Griffin expressed gratitude, praying for the longevity of this newfound peace.
Meanwhile, co-host Sarah Haynes noted that the agreement left Hamas in a weakened position, as it also resulted in the release of 2,000 Palestinians who had been detained by Israel during the conflict. As of Monday, a ceasefire was in effect.
President Trump addressed Israel’s parliament on Monday, celebrating the agreement and commending Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his support in reuniting hostages with their families. He described this moment as a “historic dawn for a new Middle East” and called for the rebuilding of Gaza.
Haines reminded everyone that Trump acknowledged Israel still has tasks ahead, implying that the deal was a compromise where neither side achieved everything they wanted. The priority, in her view, remained the safe return of hostages.
In contrast, co-host Sunny Hostin did not comment on Trump but stated that she prays daily for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict, which has drawn criticism towards Israel’s handling of the situation.
