Interview Scheduled for NYC Mayoral Candidate Zoran Mamdani

New York City mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani is set to be interviewed by Martha McCallum on Fox News this Wednesday.

This marks Mamdani’s first appearance on the channel, which will be featured on “The Martha McCallum Story” starting at 3 PM ET. The discussion is expected to revolve around the upcoming mayoral election, just weeks before Election Day.

Mamdani, who is a state representative from Queens and identifies as a democratic socialist, is currently ahead in the opinion polls, surpassing former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

He won the Democratic primary by defeating Cuomo and current New York Mayor Eric Adams, who eventually withdrew from the race. Cuomo, however, continues to run as an independent. This week, Mamdani turns 34 and aims to become one of the youngest mayors in the city’s history.

Mamdani reportedly enjoys a 46% voter support according to a recent Quinnipiac University poll, while Cuomo’s approval stands at 33%, and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa sits at 15%.

His rise from an unknown lawmaker to a leading candidate for the nation’s largest city has caught many by surprise. This unexpected trajectory has inspired similar candidates across the U.S.

However, Mamdani has faced criticism for some of his progressive policy proposals such as municipal grocery stores, rent freezes, and free public transportation. Additionally, he has been under scrutiny for past remarks regarding the police and controversial statements about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

During a recent interview on “The View,” he was called out for his previous stance on defunding the police. Co-host Alyssa Farrar Griffin highlighted his past descriptions of the NYPD as racist and a threat to public safety, eventually prompting him to acknowledge the need for an apology.

Griffin questioned how voters could trust his current positions given his history. Mamdani responded, emphasizing the importance of personal growth and understanding in leadership. He mentioned that, growing up in New York City, issues of safety and justice are particularly significant to him, and he is aware of how often justice can be overlooked.
