Arkansas Father Running for Sheriff After Fatal Shooting Incident
An Arkansas father, Aaron Spencer, who has been accused of fatally shooting a man suspected of sexually assaulting his teenage daughter, is launching a campaign to become sheriff. He’s appealing to voters for “trust, accountability, and safety” in his community.
Spencer first drew attention in 2024 when he allegedly shot Michael Vossler, 67, while Vossler was driving away with Spencer’s 14-year-old daughter. Court records indicate Vossler had faced multiple sexual offense charges against Spencer’s daughter and was out on bond during the incident.
In October 2024, Spencer reportedly discovered his daughter missing from their home and set out to find her. He eventually located her in Vossler’s truck, prompting him to force the vehicle off the road.
After an argument ensued, Spencer called 911 to report the shooting. He was later arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
In his statement, Spencer, who is both a farmer and an Army veteran, made public his intention to run for sheriff in Lonoke County, Arkansas. He shared his story in a campaign video, expressing concern over law enforcement shortcomings he witnessed during his own battle for justice. “I refuse to stand by while others face the same failures,” he said.
He emphasized the need to rebuild trust in law enforcement, aiming to create a safer environment for residents in the wake of his own experiences. “This campaign is not about me,” he stated. “It’s about every parent, every neighbor, every family who should feel safe in their homes and communities.”
Spencer is set for a pretrial hearing on December 16, and his trial is scheduled to begin on January 26, 2026.
As of now, neither Spencer nor the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office has made any comments regarding the situation.
