Should Donald Trump Receive the Nobel Peace Prize?

It’s worth considering, really. There’s a compelling case to be made for Trump deserving it. Thanks to his efforts, there’s been a significant shift in the situation in Gaza. All Israeli hostages have returned home, something President Biden didn’t manage to achieve. Trump managed to convince the Israeli government, previously hesitant under Benjamin Netanyahu, to pursue at least a temporary peace with Hamas, the group responsible for the tragic events of October 7.

Now, of course, predicting what’s next is tricky. History suggests that lasting peace is hard to come by in that region. Still, there’s a newfound sense of hope that maybe, just maybe, peace is on the horizon. This peace ideally means safety for Israel and its citizens, along with a chance for self-determination and fresh leadership in Gaza, aiming for coexistence and harmony with Israel.

And really, isn’t that what Trump facilitated? It’s only fitting he gets recognition for his role. A Pakistani leader was even here to formally nominate him. It’s all quite intriguing, isn’t it?

However, just last week, it was revealed who would be receiving the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. That honor will go to Maria Colina Machado, a Venezuelan activist fighting against the authoritarian Maduro regime. Interestingly, she was seen interacting on social media with a fervent Trump supporter who criticized the Nobel committee’s decision, feeling they overlooked Trump for Machado.

It’s true that the committee has made some head-scratching choices before—remember when they awarded Obama the prize just months into his presidency, despite him having achieved very little?

But unlike Obama, Machado is a strong choice. She even expressed her admiration for Trump during her acceptance, going so far as to dedicate her victory to him. Well done to her for standing against tyranny in Venezuela.

But there’s still a chance for Trump next year. Perhaps by then, he will have secured even more achievements on the peace front.

In the grand scheme, one could argue that Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize far more than Barack Obama. It’s not about perception or political leanings; it’s about tangible accomplishments in promoting peace.
