Jealousy Leads to Fatal Stabbing in Florida
A Queens woman, enraged after her partner blocked her on social media, traveled to Florida and fatally stabbed her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend, a jury found on Tuesday.
Sakina Thompson, 31, was convicted of first-degree murder for stabbing Kayla Hodgson, 23, multiple times in her South Florida apartment back in July 2022. This information was reported by NBC Miami.
Thompson, who was two months pregnant during the incident, testified that she blacked out and then came to realize that she had killed her romantic rival.
“I was walking in blood,” Thompson stated in a Fort Lauderdale courtroom.
She claimed Hodgson attacked her with a hookah glass, saying, “I felt like she was trying to hurt my baby,” arguing that she acted in self-defense.
However, prosecutors painted Thompson as “jealous and insecure,” suggesting that she flew from New York to confront Hodgson with intentions to kill. Days before the incident, tensions escalated when Thompson insisted on addressing Hodgson “woman-on-woman” at a residence in Tamarack Village Apartments.
Thompson later acknowledged that she changed from her bloody clothes into Hodgson’s and attempted to clean up parts of the crime scene before leaving.
Broward County police discovered Hodgson’s body on July 13, and now Thompson faces a life sentence.
