Blue Jays surge as they defeat Mariners' George Kirby in ALCS Game 3

Blue Jays Turn the Tide in ALCS Game 3

The Blue Jays struggled to score in the first two games of the American League Championship Series, only managing four runs. However, everything changed on Wednesday night when the series moved to Seattle.

In a dominant performance, the Blue Jays hit five home runs, leading to a 13-4 victory that saw Mariners pitcher George Kirby pulled from the game after just four innings. They now trail the series 2-1.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a standout night, going 4-for-4 and reaching base five times, though he did face some challenges as well.

The game began with the Mariners taking a quick 2-0 lead thanks to Julio Rodriguez’s two-run shot. Yet, the Blue Jays surged ahead in the third inning with a double from Ernie Clement followed by a two-run homer from Andres Jimenez, ultimately scoring five runs in that inning.

George Springer and Guerrero Jr. both added solo homers in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, effectively sealing Kirby’s rough night on the mound. He concluded his outing without recording an out in the fifth, giving up a total of eight runs.

This performance starkly contrasted with Kirby’s previous outing in Game 5 of the ALDS against the Tigers, where he allowed just one earned run over five innings in a dramatic win.

The Blue Jays had a positive start in the ALCS, with Springer hitting a crucial home run in Game 1, but Jimenez’s explosive game on Wednesday was a turning point.

Game 3 was a critical matchup for the Blue Jays, who needed a win after falling behind in the series. Pitcher Shane Bieber, who faced some difficulties early on, ultimately pitched six solid innings with eight strikeouts, helping lead the team to victory.

Looking ahead, Max Scherzer is set to take the mound for the Blue Jays in Game 4 against Luis Castillo.
