On a recent episode of ABC’s The View, co-host Joy Behar expressed her view that Republicans seem hesitant to appear on the show. She referenced Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.)’s comments about “weak Republican men” being intimidated by strong women in the party, saying, “I’m scared of powerful women.”
During the discussion, Behar asserted that the lack of Republican guests is due to their fear of the co-hosts. “We should have more Republicans on the show, but they don’t want to be here,” she remarked. “They’re afraid of us.” She further paraphrased Greene, using the broader term “strong women” instead of specifically “Republican women.”
Additionally, Behar noted Greene’s quote about Republican men being fearful of women in positions of power and stated, “It may apply across the board in politics, but if they want to come on the show and share their plans for the country, I’d really like to hear that.”
Greene had previously remarked that many men in the House are weak and tend to distance themselves from strong women who are eager to contribute meaningfully. Co-host Alyssa Farrar Griffin pointed out that some Republicans, like Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), have been guests before, and suggested others like Representative Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) could also be interesting additions.
Sunny Hostin, another co-host, emphasized the importance of including Robert Kennedy Jr. on the show, especially after actress Cheryl Hines, his wife, appeared. The co-hosts expressed a desire for more diverse political perspectives in their guest lineup.
Hostin later criticized Hines for her husband’s association with former President Donald Trump, despite their previous negative sentiments towards one another during the election campaign. Hines defended the collaboration, stating that after discussions, they discovered shared goals.
She elaborated on how Kennedy and Trump aimed to ensure Americans wouldn’t have to pay excessively for medications compared to other nations, highlighting a recent initiative by Trump concerning drug pricing.
