(NEXSTAR) — This year has seen quite a few retail and restaurant closures, making it somewhat surprising to see new businesses opening up. However, Burlington, the well-known off-price retailer, is bucking this trend. They plan to launch several new stores in the coming weeks.
Burlington is set to open multiple locations in 26 states throughout September and October. Currently, they operate more than 1,100 stores across the United States, covering almost every state. Notably, the retailer has ambitions to reach a total of 2,000 stores eventually.
Among the new openings this month are locations in Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas. While some openings planned for October will now take place in November, this change has been noted by the company.
Looking ahead, even more stores are on the horizon.

Burlington has posted job openings for these new locations online.
Interestingly, while these locations are brand new for Burlington, many of the spaces they occupy had different tenants before. Some, like the new Nashville site, were previously associated with Big Lots, which closed after filing for bankruptcy last year. Other stores have transitioned from places like Bed Bath & Beyond or a Party City. It’s quite common these days for retailers to take over abandoned storefronts.
