Daisy Link Found Guilty of Murder
A Florida woman, Daisy Link, who captured attention worldwide after becoming pregnant in a Miami prison, has been convicted of second-degree murder. The jury took less than two hours to reach a decision regarding the June 2022 shooting death of Pedro Jimenez outside his home in Homestead.
Link, emotionless as the verdict was read, was in a long-term relationship with Jimenez, with whom she shared two children. The 30-year-old made headlines during her murder trial, revealing her pregnancy while waiting for the trial’s start at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in December 2023. She mentioned that she got the semen of fellow inmate Joan DePass, whom she never met, by using a glove passed through a vent for the purpose of impregnation.
The details surrounding Jimenez’s death were stark. Security footage showed him shot in the leg, ultimately leading to his bleeding out while leaving the scene, even taunting Link as he stumbled away.
Link maintained in court that the gunshot was meant to scare Jimenez, claiming, “That’s the father of my children. It’s not that I didn’t love him; I did.” However, the prosecutor portrayed their relationship as “toxic,” marked by domestic violence on both sides. Defense attorneys claimed Jimenez had a history of abusing Link, alleging that he assaulted her shortly before the incident in question.
In an emotional turn, Link’s 11-year-old son testified, recounting instances of his father’s violence, including a moment where Jimenez pointed a gun at Link. “He was hitting her with the butt of the gun,” the boy reported, lending a grim perspective to the family’s dynamics.
After the trial, one juror shared his thoughts on the verdict, stating that if Jimenez was fleeing and she shot him in the back, it didn’t seem justified as self-defense. He felt that Link had been dishonest from the time she called 911.
The Miami-Dade State Attorney acknowledged the jury’s careful consideration of the case, praising the prosecution’s thorough presentation of evidence that contributed to the guilty verdict.
A pre-sentence hearing is scheduled for November 21.
