A disturbing incident took place in Virginia when three men, donning Halloween masks, targeted a widow, attempting to break into her home while threatening the occupants.
Sheila, the homeowner’s daughter, reported that the trio arrived at her residence in Alexandria, located approximately 13 miles from Washington, D.C., at around 10 p.m. on a Tuesday night. WUSA9 shared details about the incident.
Initially, Sheila thought it might have been a Halloween prank. “I said, ‘Happy Halloween,’” she recounted.
However, when the masked individuals did not leave, she suggested calling the police, but her attempt to intimidate them was unsuccessful.
“They kept knocking on the door,” Sheila said, recalling how the pounding intensified with time. “It just kept getting louder.”
Footage from the doorbell camera captured the suspects dressed as Michael Myers, a clown, and a spooky nun, persistently knocking and demanding to be let in.
“Either you come out or we come in,” one of them shouted. “Please open the door!”
Reportedly, Sheila’s brother and the family dog were inside during this unsettling ordeal. The group also made threatening gestures before moving to the back of the house.
They managed to break through wooden fences, slashed open deck screens, and loudly banged on windows as they peered inside.
Sheila expressed her fear when they mentioned breaking down the door, saying, “My heart dropped when they said they were going to sit in a chair and break down the door. That’s just too much.”
After around 10 minutes of chaos, the intruders finally retreated, leaving Sheila and her widowed mother shaken.
“This isn’t a joke. They really tried to get into the house,” she shared. “My dad just recently passed away, so… I’m glad to be here. But I’m scared. I don’t want to be alone.”
Sheila reflected on how things could have turned out differently, remarking, “Our Second Amendment rights weren’t exercised and could have been.”
People on social media drew eerie comparisons to the movie The Purge, with one commenter exclaiming, “It’s literally a purge.”
Another voiced relief, saying, “I’m lucky I didn’t get shot.”
Critics pointed out how brazen the criminals had become, voicing concern for public safety. “Criminals are becoming bolder and calling for violence,” one user emphasized. “This is not a game. It’s about lives at stake.”
The police chief of Alexandria, Tarik McGuire, described the occurrence as a “very serious matter.” He noted that the suspects made alarming threats against the family, including promises of physical harm if they didn’t comply.
McGuire revealed that investigators are currently examining additional surveillance footage from the area in hopes of identifying the suspects. He warned that the intruders could face charges for robbery and criminal intimidation.
“They attempted to break into a residence, which is classified as burglary under Virginia law,” he explained. “This is a warning: do not approach people’s homes, do not threaten them, and do not invade their space because the consequences could be dire.”
