Rodgers Unhappy with Tackle After Touchdown
Aaron Rodgers didn’t seem too pleased after a tackle from behind by offensive lineman Broderick Jones following a game-winning touchdown pass during Thursday night’s matchup.
In the 33-31 loss to the Bengals, the veteran quarterback, aged 41, appeared visibly frustrated as he got up from the field, shoving Jones and exchanging words with the offensive line.
This unusual moment occurred late in the fourth quarter while the Steelers were down 30-24. Rodgers completed a 68-yard touchdown pass to Pat Freiermuth—his fourth touchdown of the game, with two to tight ends—giving Pittsburgh a brief 31-30 lead with just over two minutes left.
Celebrating, Rodgers showcased his signature jumps and fist pumps and even reached out towards the crowd in excitement, though it seems Jones was a bit overly enthusiastic in his celebration.
Jones rushed in from behind, wrapping his arms around Rodgers’ neck, leading to both players tumbling down as if the quarterback had been sacked. Rodgers wasn’t pleased, rolling away from Jones, who is a recent first-round draft pick.
Former NFL linemen expressed their disbelief over the incident. David Bakhtiari tweeted, “Honestly, the more I watch it, the more interesting it gets.”
Additionally, Jeff Schwartz remarked, “Steelers LT ended up tackling Rodgers after scoring last night. What is he doing?”
Despite the odd moment, Rodgers had an impressive night, completing 23 of 34 passes with four touchdowns and two interceptions.
As the game concluded, the Bengals secured the win with a field goal just seven seconds remaining, dropping the Steelers to a record of 3-4. Rodgers is now set for a revengful match against the Packers in Week 8 during Sunday Night Football.
“This is a short week, division opponent; anything can happen,” he stated. “Joe (Flacco) played really well for them, and (Jamar) Chase and Tee (Higgins) did a good job. This is the NFL. We had a chance to widen our lead, but we’re still at the top of the division at 4-2. With two home games coming up, we’ll face our former team Sunday night.”
He added, “I’m not going to ride an emotional rollercoaster, and I know (Steelers coach) Mike (Tomlin) isn’t either. I hope the players can maintain that mindset as well.”
