California’s Gas Prices Under Scrutiny

California is facing the highest gas prices in the nation, which has led Governor Gavin Newsom to respond to criticism from left-leaning news networks.

In a recent discussion, Harry Enten, the host of Margin of Error, expressed surprise at the staggering prices hitting California. His remarks highlighted the struggles of residents in the Golden State.

Enten pointed out that the average gas price in California stands at a remarkable $6.13 per gallon, compared to the national average of $4.48. He noted that some stations are even charging close to $10 a gallon.

“It’s no surprise for anyone who’s been there,” he remarked. “The price of gas in California is, quite frankly, outrageous. It’s really hitting Californians hard.”

He elaborated on the reasons behind the high prices, stating that California’s gas taxes are approximately 71 cents per gallon, while the national average is much lower at 33 cents. Enten also referenced a CBS poll indicating that 57% of voters oppose any extra costs tied to the state’s environmental regulations.

“Californians are clearly feeling the pain,” he said. “Many believe these costs are just not justified.”

In response, Newsom’s office connected rising gas prices to factors beyond state control, specifically citing the Iran war initiated by former President Trump, which they say has significantly impacted global oil supplies.

Newsom’s team tweeted, “Remember, Trump started a war without a solid plan, and it’s everyone who’s paying the consequences. Other states are experiencing even steeper increases.” They highlighted that while California has seen a 32% hike, other states like Ohio and Texas are seeing much larger surges.

The governor pointed out that the gas tax approved by voters in 2018 was intended for improving infrastructure and promoting clean air. He noted that the tax rates haven’t changed since the onset of the war.

This year has set new records for gas prices in California, and critics have placed some blame on the state’s green energy initiatives, arguing that these policies have led to refinery closures and subsequently limited the state’s gas supply.
