Ray Ray’s Unexpected Adventure
Ray Ray, an 8-year-old cat, had never ventured beyond the confines of his family’s Pennsylvania farm.
Last month, the DeNardos family set out for an early morning road trip that would take them to New York City, with a brief stop in New Hampshire for a marathon being run by Tony DeNardos, the father.
They hit the road with enthusiasm, driving the first 160 miles without a single pause. However, while they traveled through the Pennsylvania countryside on Interstate 80, an unforeseen scenario was unfolding—a cat was clinging desperately to the roof of their minivan.
About two hours into the journey, the family stopped for gas and a bathroom break. That’s when Tony spotted the cat calmly perched atop the vehicle.
He couldn’t help but chuckle and called out to his wife, Margaret, to check it out.
“I mean, I was just thinking about all the roads we took, the trucks we passed, all the hills… how did this cat end up up there?” Margaret recalled.
To her surprise, the cat wasn’t skittish or frightened; it seemed to be waking up after a cozy nap.
While loading their belongings on the roof with their 16-year-old daughter and two friends, the couple pieced together that perhaps Ray Ray had found a snug spot among their bags while they were driving.
“We noticed some claw marks,” Margaret mentioned.
Given the circumstances, they figured turning back wasn’t an option.
Ray Ray had only been to the vet before this adventure. Since the family was headed to the bustling city afterward, the cat decided to join in on the excitement.
They swung by Petco to pick up essentials like a leash, harness, and a travel backpack, ensuring Ray Ray was secured for the rest of the journey.
It turned out this small-town cat was quite taken with New York City.
“He really seemed to enjoy Times Square at night. I’m not sure if it was the bright lights or the hustle and bustle, but he just curled up with his little legs tucked and took it all in,” Margaret observed.
