After the Giants’ impressive victory against the Eagles last week, it’s clear they’re drawing attention across the league.
Even before this season’s wins, particularly with Jackson Dart and Cam Scatterbo in the spotlight, the Bengals were looking toward East Rutherford, New Jersey, in search of a quarterback. They needed someone to step in for Joe Burrow, who is facing multiple months of recovery due to a turf toe injury.
Cincinnati eventually chose veteran Joe Flacco for this role. Since the trade on October 7, they’ve had a record of 1-1. However, the team’s management and coach Zac Taylor have created a list of 13 potential quarterback candidates, which includes Flacco, as reported by Sports Illustrated.
The other candidates feature the Giants’ Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, Anthony Richardson, Jimmy Garoppolo, Tommy DeVito, Drew Lock, Stetson Bennett, Davis Mills, Tanner McKee, and Josh Johnson.
The Bengals have now narrowed their list down to five players, but it’s still uncertain who has been chosen.
Interestingly, the Bengals made a move to acquire former Saints quarterback Carr, who unexpectedly retired due to a shoulder issue during the offseason, but he turned them down.
For the Bengals, trading with the Giants could have been beneficial, especially given Wilson’s situation. He was signed to a one-year deal in the offseason but faced being benched by coach Brian Daboll during their Week 4 game against Dirt. There had been whispers about his departure, but Wilson claimed he wanted to remain in New York.
Considering Wilson, the Bengals also looked at third-stringer Winston, who likely won’t see much action unless there’s a significant crisis.
The Giants, currently at 2-4, plan to take all three quarterbacks with them as they head to Denver for their Week 7 matchup against the Broncos.
