Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro remembers telling Biden a harsh truth about his 2024 campaign.

Shapiro’s Honest Conversation with Biden on Election Challenges

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro shared an insightful moment from an interview with “The Breakfast Club,” where he recounted his attempt to convey some tough realities about the election to then-President Joe Biden before he stepped away from the race.

Nearly a year after the pivotal 2024 election, which was viewed as a significant moment for the Democratic Party, members are still grappling with what went wrong during that period.

Shapiro describes himself as a moderate in the party who actively reaches out to conservatives. He openly spoke about his concerns regarding Biden when he was the presumed Democratic nominee for the upcoming election.

“I went directly to the president and talked to him about his challenges in Pennsylvania. I was really honest with him,” Shapiro recalled. They met at a coffee shop in Harrisburg, where Shapiro candidly expressed his feelings, saying, ‘I’m not doing well.’

Reflecting on their conversation, he said, “The polls show it’s not working. I don’t think you’re addressing the issue of costs. That was a big theme of the campaign, especially in Pennsylvania. I felt people thought he wasn’t up to the job.”

Shapiro emphasized that his direct approach influenced how he communicated during this conversation.

“It might be an old-fashioned idea, but I believe if you have something to say, you should say it face-to-face. He’s the president; I respect him enough to say it directly,” he explained.

When asked how Biden received such a serious critique, Shapiro answered, “I think he listened. He mentioned that their poll numbers were different and appeared determined to keep moving forward. Ultimately, that’s his choice.”

He also addressed concerns about Biden’s team not being straightforward with the president regarding challenges he faced.

During the interview, host Charlamagne the God asserted that future Democratic candidates should be transparent about the past, suggesting they must be willing to hold the previous administration accountable.

Shapiro, however, disagreed with this approach. “I don’t think you move forward by throwing people under the bus. You don’t need to step on anyone to get ahead. You should focus on your vision and communicate who you are,” he stated.

Previously, Shapiro faced scrutiny as a potential running mate for Kamala Harris, but ultimately, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was chosen.

As Trump continued to gain traction in Pennsylvania and secure the presidency, Shapiro recognized the ongoing challenges facing the Democratic Party within the state.

Fox News Digital reached out for comments from Biden’s team but has not yet received a response.
