Jewish Man Taken into Custody While Donning Star of David at Pro-Palestine Demonstration

A Jewish Lawyer Critiques Metropolitan Police for Star of David Incident

A Jewish lawyer has expressed his disapproval of the Metropolitan Police after they wore Star of David necklaces during a pro-Palestinian protest.

The individual, who requested anonymity for safety reasons, was detained by police outside the Israeli embassy in London on August 29.

Video footage of his questioning has surfaced, showing officers probing him about his “political beliefs” and implying that he was “hostile” towards the protesters.

During the interrogation, one detective asked whether he was “stoking fires with pro-Palestinian protesters,” specifically noting the Star of David necklace he was wearing.

“It’s not to discriminate. I want to state that clearly. I’m not trying to offend you. But, if we proceed with my questioning,” the detective reportedly said, explaining that the officers believed the visibility of the Star of David contributed to the tension.

In response, the Metropolitan Police insisted that the arrest wasn’t due to the necklace but for allegedly “repeatedly violating” orders to distance himself from the pro-Palestinian crowd.

The lawyer, who identified himself as acting in a legal advisor capacity at the time, called the situation “one of the clearest examples of two-tiered policing” he had seen.

“While police assert that wearing the Star of David is antagonizing to protesters, we’ve witnessed various anti-Semitic messages on placards and comments directed at Jews with no repercussions,” he stated.

This incident drew criticism from Israel, with Foreign Minister Gideon Saar remarking, “The Star of David symbolizes Jewish identity and should not be seen as provocative.”

Saar further noted that Jews in central London feeling unsafe to display the symbol highlights a disturbing rise in anti-Semitism linked to “pro-Palestinian” demonstrations in the UK.

“This is a moral disgrace. The British authorities must take action. Anti-Semitic expressions must be prohibited, and there should be a thorough institutional review,” he urged.

The situation escalated politically after fans of the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team participated in protests. Attendance at their upcoming Europa League match against Aston Villa has been prohibited due to safety concerns, as the West Midlands Police expressed doubts about managing potential pro-Palestinian protests during the event.

On Sunday, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband urged for the ban to be lifted, stating that the government is striving to ensure the safety of Israeli fans. Coming from a Polish Jewish family, Miliband emphasized that no area in Britain should be a “no-go zone” for Jews.
