Trump Responds to Worldwide “No Kings Day” Protests
On Sunday night, President Donald Trump addressed the recent global “No Kings Day” protests, expressing that he isn’t a king and insists he’s committed to improving the country. His remarks came as he stepped off Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews and were in response to inquiries about the protests that occurred the previous day.
Trump described the protests as a “joke,” saying, “I looked at the people. They don’t represent this country.” He went on to speculate that the demonstrations were funded by individuals like George Soros and claimed they were quite small and ineffective. “If you look at those people, they don’t represent the people of our country,” he stated.
He reiterated that he is not part of any royal lineage, emphasizing, “I’m not a king. I work hard to make my country great. That’s all.” These comments followed significant gatherings in cities like New York, Washington DC, and London, marking the second wave of “No Kings” protests since June.
Despite worries that the protests might escalate, the rallies remained peaceful, with no incidents or arrests reported. Some Republicans suggested the demonstrations were aimed at distracting from the ongoing debate over government funding. House Speaker Mike Johnson mentioned that he hoped Democratic leaders would be more open to Republican proposals after witnessing the protests, though he seemed doubtful.
In New York City, police estimates indicated that over 100,000 individuals participated across all five boroughs, with no arrests linked to the protests. Washington saw no arrests either, although some protesters momentarily took to the streets. Overall, authorities reported similar peaceful outcomes in major cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, and Boston.
