Mike Francesa's unexpectedly upbeat view on the Giants' surprising defeat

Giants Fans Reeling After Loss

After the disappointing loss to the Broncos on Sunday, Giants fans are, well, feeling pretty low. I had a glimmer of hope before the game, but it slipped away quickly. There’s bound to be some shouting for changes among the coaching staff as fans look for accountability for the defeat.

Interestingly, Mike Francesa took away a rather optimistic perspective from the game.

“The Giants are definitely on the rise right now. They’re on the rise,” Francesa stated during his podcast. “There’s no doubt about that.”

He acknowledged the pain of the defeat and the evident need for improved performance and player talent, predicting that the Giants might face more losses this season. Still, he feels that the worst is behind them, thanks to rookies Jackson Dart and Cam Skatebo.

Francesa shared a specific moment that stood out: “[Dart] we stayed calm and drove them down the field and took the lead,” referring to the play that briefly put the Giants ahead before the Broncos clinched it with a field goal. Sure, they are 2-5 right now—and I hate to say it, but they probably won’t be heading anywhere significant this year. Yet, I can’t ignore the good plays they made. It seems like the cycle of struggle that has haunted this franchise might finally be breaking. It’s over.

According to Francesa, Dart and Skatebo have injected a fresh energy and sense of hope into the team.

This brings us to the crucial question: is head coach Brian Daboll the right fit for this job?

Francesa mused about Daboll’s future, expressing uncertainty but also affirming that the coach will have another shot with the team. “I don’t know if Daboll will be enough to get them to the promised land. I don’t know that,” he admitted. But with Dart playing at such a high level, it seems like the two are inextricably linked for now. Even after a tough loss like this, Daboll’s position appears secure.
