Keri Russell Embraces Natural Beauty

Keri Russell, at 49, is standing firm against the trend of plastic surgery that has become prevalent in Hollywood. In a recent interview, she expressed that being true to herself allows her to feel “unique.”

While discussing her character, Kate Wyler, in the Netflix series The Diplomat, Russell touched on the societal pressures around beauty. She reflected on how, in her role, appearances are heavily scrutinized, particularly for American diplomats.

“I totally relate,” Russell said, acknowledging the constant judgment on women’s looks and choices. “Being a woman is such a strange thing. Everyone has an opinion on how you look, how you dress, and how your hair is.”

Russell, in a lighthearted manner, mentioned that she enjoys the aspects of her character who grapples with similar issues, saying, “I like that she gets grumpy about it and is always trying to fight people about it.” It’s almost a playful take on the seriousness of the matter.

She observed that our society is filled with movie stars, even in their 50s and 60s, who look remarkable—often thanks to cosmetic procedures. Interestingly, she noted how young people are also partaking in this beauty frenzy. “It’s something my girlfriend and I talk about all the time,” she shared, hinting at the normalization of cosmetic work.

Despite the pressure, Russell expressed contentment with her appearance, particularly when viewing herself on screen. “It’s amazing how it feels weird and like it’s unique to look like that, but it really is,” she reflected, recognizing the complexities of how one’s image is perceived.

Personally, Russell rose to fame for her role in Felicity when it premiered in 1998. Reflecting on her journey, she maintains a sense of pride in her authentic self, even in an industry obsessed with aesthetics. “When I watch this show, I think, I don’t look like that… but I do like the way I look on it,” she concluded, embracing her identity both on and off the screen.
