Thomas Splinter, 57, and his wife, Nancy Orellana Splinter, 29, tragically lost their lives in a wrong-way collision last February.
The driver, Ribbon Woods, 25, stayed at the scene until law enforcement arrived.
According to police, Woods didn’t remember the incident and suggested he might have been sleepy while driving.
Four hours after the crash, his blood alcohol content was recorded at 0.095%. Prosecutors believe it could have been around 0.155% at the time of the accident, which is significantly above the legal limit of 0.08%.
He faces two counts of second-degree vehicular manslaughter, with a potential sentence of 10 years for each charge.
Currently, Woods is being held without bail and is expected to return to court on October 31st.
Meanwhile, friends and family of the Splinters continue to grieve the couple’s sudden deaths, as they try to come to terms with their loss. Thomas Splinter also had three older children from a previous relationship, adding to the grieving family dynamic.
